The book chapter on Multiparty Interaction Between Humans and Socially Interactive Agents is now available in the ACM digital library withing The Handbook on Socially Interactive Agents: 20 Years of Research on Embodied Conversational Agents, Intelligent Virtual Agents, and Social Robotics Volume 2: Interactivity, Platforms, Application. In this chapter, we summarize research findings from the past 20 years with regards to multiparty interaction from a social robotics and a virtual agents perspective. The chapter offers a discusion on similarities and differences and highlights current challenges for research in multiparty interactions with socially interactive agents.
